When you retire you can still remain a member of the trade union which has looked after your interests and welfare.
As you approach retirement or have just retired, you may want to still be part of UNITE and this is possible. You can become a Retired Member Plus and be eligible to participate in the Constitutional Structures of the Union. This would include being able to attend the Branch AGM or use the proxy voting system used by the Branch.
Retired Membership Plus costs £13 for 6 months or £26 per year by direct debit. This enables you to enjoy the full range of benefits and participation within the Union.
Alternatively you can be an inactive member which costs nothing but you cannot participate.
Retired members still have something to offer the trade union and some are still active in the general labour movement. Life doesn’t stop when you pick up the pension.
